Sunday, September 12th, 2010 • Noon CDT • LP Field • Nashville, Tennessee

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN — The Tennessee Titans (0-0) kick off their regular season schedule this week, as they host the Oakland Raiders (0-0) at LP Field (capacity 69,143). Kickoff is scheduled for noon CDT on Sunday, September 12th.

Fans attending this week’s game are encouraged to participate in the LP PENCIL Box School Supply Drive. LP PENCIL Box, a collaborative non-profit venture between PENCIL Foundation and LP Building Products, offers Nashville Metro teachers the opportunity to acquire school supplies for the city’s most in-need children. Seven collection locations will be positioned outside of LP Field to collect items from erasers and pencil boxes to hand sanitizers, colored pencils, pens and rulers.

The Broadcast

The game will be televised regionally on CBS, including Nashville affiliate WTVF NewsChannel 5. Ian Eagle will handle play-by-play duties, while Dan Fouts will provide color commentary. The Titans Radio Network, including Nashville flagship 104.5 The Zone, will broadcast the game across the Mid-South with the “Voice of the Titans” Mike Keith, color commentator Frank Wycheck, sideline reporter Cody Allison and gameday host Larry Stone.

Titans And Raiders Entering 2010 Season

Tennessee TitansThe Titans wrapped up the preseason with a 2-2 record, including a 27-24 win over the New Orleans Saints at LP Field last week. The Titans defense completed its fourth preseason contest in which the starting unit did not allow a touchdown by the opposing offense, and quarterback Vince Young completed a seven-yard touchdown pass to Bo Scaife before leaving the game. Young, as well as the majority of Titans starters, played through the first quarter. Young enters his fifth NFL season with momentum from an 8-2 record as a starter in the final 10 games of 2009. During the preseason, he completed 68.6 percent of his passes and earned a passer rating of 90.0.

His backfield mate, running back Chris Johnson, received just 19 carries in three preseason games (Weeks 1-3), totaling 39 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Johnson, who rushed for 2,006 yards in 2009, begins this season with a current streak of 11 consecutive games with 100 or more rushing yards. With a 100-yard effort this week, he would break a tie with Marcus Allen for the second-longest streak in NFL history, just two games behind all-time leader Barry Sanders (14 games in 1997).

Tennessee’s game against Oakland begins what is, according to last year’s results, tied for the toughest schedule in the NFL. The Titans share the distinction with the Houston Texans with a combined opponents’ winning percentage of .547.

Oakland Raiders HelmetThe Raiders, who begin their second full season with Tom Cable as head coach, finished their preseason with a 3-1 record, including a 27-24 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in their preseason finale.

Their record in 2009 was 5-11, and, like the Titans, they finished third in their division.

History On Kickoff Weekend

The Titans are 26-24 all-time on Kickoff Weekend, including a 9-6 mark under Jeff Fisher, who begins his 16th full season as head coach. The Raiders own a 24-26 franchise record on Kickoff Weekend.

This week’s game occurs 50 years and a day (September 11th, 1960) after the then-Houston Oilers defeated the Raiders 37-22 during the American Football League’s inaugural weeked. The two clubs have opened the season against each other eight total times (1960, 1961, 1963, 1969, 1984, 1991, 1997, 2003), with the Titans enjoying a current three-game winning streak and a 5-3 overall

What To Look For This Week

  • RB Chris Johnson will attempt to record his 17th career 100-yard rushing game and his 12th consecutive 100-yard game, which would extend his franchise record and break a tie for the second longest streak in NFL history (Marcus Allen, 1985-86).
  • RB Chris Johnson needs 44 rushing yards to overtake Charley Tolar (3,277 rushing yards) for seventh place on the franchise’s all-time rushing list.
  • Jeff Fisher begins his 16th full season as head coach of the Titans.
  • QB Vince Young is scheduled to make his 40th career regular season start.
  • September 11th, the day before this week’s game, marks the 50th anniversary of the first game in Oilers history (September 11th, 1960), when the Oilers defeated the Raiders 37-22.
  • Two of the top five running backs selected in the 2008 NFL Draft are scheduled to take the field—Tennessee’s Chris Johnson (24th pick overall, 5th running back) and Oakland’s Darren McFadden (4th overall, 1st running back).
