Govs finish third at PowerAde Invitational

APSU Men’s Cross Country

Austin Peay State University GovernorsLed by junior Enock Langat’s ninth-place finish, Austin Peay State University men’s cross country team posted a third-place finish at the five-kilometer PowerAde Invitational hosted by Chattanooga, Friday night, at Moccasin Bend Race Course.

The Govs finished with 83 points in the seven-team field. Host Chattanooga won its season-opening meet with 21 points as all five of its runners finished among the top 10. Kennesaw State finished second with 38 points, followed by APSU.

Langat ran the five-kilometer course in a personal-best 15:59. He was 47 seconds off the winning pace set by Middle Tennessee’s Festus Chemaoi, who completed the course in 15:12.

Junior Boniface Yator was the Govs second runner across the line in 18th place overall with a time of 16:19. Sophomore Kosgei was 20th overall, finishing the course in 16:26.

Following those three runners were junior Evan Collins (31st, 17:07), freshman Tyler Kepley (35th, 17:11) and sophomore Konner Kessler (52nd, 17:51).

“I am pleased with our finish today,” said APSU cross country head coach Doug Molnar. “Our first three guys were right there with one another, which is what we like to see. It was the first time Enock broke the 16 minute barrier in the five-kilometer, so it was obviously a good race for him. We also saw Collins and Kepley close the gap on the three front runners, putting us in a good position to compete later in the year.”

The Govs next compete at the Old Timer Classic, hosted by Western Kentucky, Saturday, September 18th.
