Tatiana Ariza named CIAF Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State University GovernorsFreshman forward Tatiana Ariza, of the Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team, has been named the Copies In a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Tatiana ArizaAriza was named the Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week after being named the JSU/Adidas Gamecock Classic All-Tournament team. Ariza was responsible for all of the Lady Govs’ offense, Friday, in Austin Peay’s 4-0 win against Southern. She scored the game’s opening goal in the 33rd minute and assisted on each of the next three goals.

Those assists moved her into the national rankings, making her 20th in total assists. Three assists also currently are the second-best single-game total nationally this season.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Junior Jeremy Ross, a safety on the Austin Peay football team, recovered three second-half fumbles and was credited with six tackles, including a tackle-for-loss. He also had a pass break-up in the contest. His second fumble recovery, picked up at the Middle Tennessee 16-yard line, was returned for a touchdown. He leads the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) with a 1.50 fumble-recoveries per game average. Ross was named the College Football Performance Awards National Defensive Player of the Week.
  • Junior Paige Economos, a junior on the Austin Peay volleyball team, was named the OVC’s Libero of the Week. She was named to the Buccanner Classic all-tournament team after leading the Lady Govs with 58 digs. She recorded 24 digs in four sets against host East Tennessee followed by 17 digs in three-set sweeps against both UNC Asheville and UNC Greensboro.
  • Senior  Sarah Alisaleh, a setter on the Austin Peay volleyball team, was named the OVC’s Setter of the Week after posting 105 assists during the Buccaneer Classic. She had four kills and 25 assists while playing three of the four sets against East Tennessee. Alisaleh followed that with 43 assists and nine digs against UNC Asheville. She finished the tournament with 37 assists and 11 digs against UNC Greensboro.
  • Junior Enock Langat, of the Austin Peay men’s cross country team, led the Govs to a third-place finish at the PowerAde Invitational. Langat ran the five-kilometer course in a personal-best 15:59. He was 47 seconds off the winning pace set by Middle Tennessee’s Festus Chemaoi, who completed the course in 15:12.
