Clarksville, TN – Senior Luke Sherrod, of the Austin Peay State University men’s golf team, was named Ohio Valley Conference Golfer of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
Sherrod tallied a 15th-place finish at the Cardinal Intercollegiate, to lead all OVC golfers at the event. Most importantly, the Knoxville native improved in each round, wrapping up the tournament with final-round 70 for a three-round, one-over par 217.
“It’s good to see him turning it around,” head coach Kirk Kayden said. “Luke had a tough junior year and he told me at the beginning of the season that he was determined to have a good senior year.”
Thus far, Sherrod has been the Govs top performer. At the Marshall Invitational, last week, he was one of two Govs to finish under par, but had to settle for 23rd overall. This week at Louisville’s Cardinal Club, Sherrod overcame a windy day on a tough course to complete his climb.
“One-over at the Cardinal Club is a good score,” Kayden said. “The nice thing about the final round was it was the windiest day, the conditions were the most difficult of the three rounds. The wind was up to 15-20 miles-per-hour. The pins were tucked on every hole and Luke still managed to make some birdies and play really well.”
