Austin Peay State University GovernorsEdwardsville, IL – Seeking consistent play for a pair of rounds, Austin Peay State University women’s golf team will head to Edwardsville, IL, Monday and Tuesday, to play in the DoubleTree Intercollegiate at Sunset Hills Country Club.

The two-day, 36-hole tournament will be played on a 5,363-yard layout that is considered one of the more challenging courses on the east side of St. Louis. In addition to the Lady Govs and host SIU-Edwardsville, IPFW, Western Illinois, Chicago State, Eastern Illinois, Christian Brothers and Evansville will be participating.

Senior Chelsea Harris, who finished up play in Cincinnati’s tournament with an even-par 72 and a fifth-place finish, will lead the Lady Govs while freshman Rachel Deaton and junior Ashley Averitt earned spots after their performances at Cincinnati last week. In addition, seniors Ashley Wathen and Beth Ann Burns earned the team’s final two berths from qualifying play this week.

Two other Lady Govs, senior Catie Tucker and sophomore Tabitha Beard will compete as individuals in APSU’s third fall tournament.

“We are looking forward to going to Edwardsville to play,” APSU coach Sara Robson said. “Sunset Hills is similar to the Clarksville County Club so the course will be challenging but fun to play. I am expecting the girls to improve on last week’s performance and put two solid rounds together.

“This team is capable of playing really well and putting together some great team scores, I’m just waiting to see them put everything together and I feel this could be that tournament.”
