Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team continues Ohio Valley Conference action with a 7:00pm, Friday game against Jacksonville State at Morgan Brother’s Soccer Field. Admission is free for all fans.

The Lady Govs (9-4-1; 1-2-1 OVC) struggled in back-to-back games to develop an offensive attack and followed that with a scoreless tie at Murray State. After posting only five shots on goal in losses to Southeast Missouri and at UT Martin, Austin Peay seemed to get back on track with 21 shots and nine on goal against the Racers.

The bulk of those shots came from freshmen Tatiana Ariza and Joceline Quiceno, two Lady Govs forwards that have been instrumental in creating offensive opportunities. Tatiana leads the Lady Govs with six goals, followed by sophomore Jocelyn Murdoch with five goals and freshman Emily Kink with four goals.

Defensively, Austin Peay has been one of the league’s most consistent units. Despite losing two integral players to injuries, seniors Hannah Jones and Samantha Northrup, along with sophomore Laurena Robinson and freshman Corey Osborn, have provided a more than serviceable back line.

In fact, that group has allowed only 58 shots on goal and helped senior keeper Carley Newman maintain a 0.51 goals-against-average, which ranks 17th nationally. The team’s 0.63 goals-against-average is 25th nationally.

Jacksonville State (3-10-1; 1-3 OVC) will provide a formidable test for the Lady Govs, Friday. The Gamecocks were swept at UT Martin and at Murray State, last weekend, and their only league win came against Southeast Missouri.  JSU holds a 4-2-1 all-time advantage over the Lady Govs, but this year brings a three game losing streak to Clarksville.

Chelsea Pelletier leads Jacksonville State’s offense with seven goals, while no other player has more than two. As a whole, the Gamecocks only have scored 16 goals, while allowing 23 goals in 14 games. Ali Koenig’s 68 saves are third-best in the OVC, while her 1.67 goals-against-average ranks eighth.
