Peay-Tastic weekend coming for Austin Peay Athletics

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University Athletics may not have a bigger weekend than the upcoming one. With women’s volleyball, football and women’s soccer all hosting Ohio Valley Conference opponents and the 2010-11 Govs and Lady Govs basketball teams taking the floor for Reigning Red, Peay fans have plenty on the slate.

The weekend kicks off with a 6:00pm, Friday, volleyball match when the Lady Govs host OVC leader Morehead State. The Lady Govs are third in the OVC race, while the Eagles are unbeaten in league play at the top of the pack. There will not be a bigger OVC volleyball match at the Dunn Center this season. Admission is free to all fans.

Then, immediately following the APSU-MSU match, fans will get a chance to meet and greet the 2010-11 Govs and Lady Govs basketball teams, in the Dunn Center, while enjoying a complimentary cup of Wendy’s chili. Don’t miss this presentation of the Lady Govs 2010 OVC Tournament Championship rings.

Head coach Carrie Daniels’ team is looking to contend for its third-straight OVC championship, returning 10 players and bringing in three newcomers. Jasmine Rayner, the Lady Govs leading returning scorer, along with senior Brooke Faulkner and junior Whitney Hanley were among last season’s starting five.

The Govs are coming off a 17-15 season and are led by returning second-team All-OVC pick Anthony Campbell. With seven new faces on the team, Reigning Red is a great opportunity to become familiar with head coach Dave Loos’ new-look Govs.

Saturday, the fun continues for Austin Peay fans. The Lady Govs volleyball team wraps up a pivotal OVC weekend with a 2:00pm match against Eastern Kentucky at the Dunn Center, looking to avenge last week’s loss to the Lady Colonels. Then, make your way to Tailgate Alley to prep for the Govs, 6:00pm, football game against league-leader Southeast Missouri, the No. 18/20-ranked team in the Football Championship Subdivision. That game will be broadcast live by Wazoo Sports on MyTV30; set your DVR and be at Governors Stadium to support the Govs in-person.

The weekend wraps up with Austin Peay soccer’s final home match and Senior Day presentations for six graduating seniors. The Lady Govs are amidst the program’s first-ever 10-win season and have secured the first winning season in program history. The Lady Govs host Eastern Kentucky in a 2:00pm kickoff at Morgan Brothers Soccer Field. Admission is free to all fans.
