Clarksville, TN – The associate director of human resources at Tennessee State University has been named the new director of human resources at Austin Peay State University.
Michael Hamlet will begin his new duties November 1st. He succeeds Dr. Ted Heidloff, who retired in June 2010. Carlene Smith, associate director of human resources at APSU, served as interim director.
With 17 years of experience in management and human resources, Hamlet has worked in diverse environments ranging from operational start-ups to established organizations, both for profit and not for profit. Much of his work in human resources has focused on understanding the dynamics of human motivation within organizations and in assisting teams in driving toward the accomplishment of organizational objectives.
Other experience includes process improvement, management of financial resources and budgeting, staff training and development, benefits design and management, governmental reporting and grant writing and experience with a variety of computer applications, including the Sungard SCT Banner system using in most higher education institutions.
Prior to TSU, he worked at the Tennessee Board of Regents as the director of employee benefits. He holds two master’s degrees; Master of Science in clinical psychology and Master of Business Administration. Both were obtained at Murray (Ky.) State University.
