Carr finished 18 of 28 passing, throwing second-quarter scoring strikes of 18 and 34 yards to give UT Martin a 21-12 halftime lead after the Skyhawks initially fell behind 6-0. His favorite target was Daniel Chamberlain, who caught six passes for 125 yards, including a an 18-yard TD pass from Carr and a second on a 22 yarder from running back Jason McNair on a halfback option play.

Austin Peay squandered an early scoring opportunity by missing a 46-yard field goal, but then scored on a Jake Ryan-to-Robert Lemon eight-yard TD pass with three seconds left in the first quarter. However, Stephen Stansell was unable to convert the extra point—it was the fourth time in nine games this season the Govs scored first.

But UT Martin came right back, set up by a 53-yard pass from Carr to Chamberlain to the APSU five. Kenny Jones ran it in from one-yard out to tie the game and Cody Sandlin’s extra point gave the Skyhawks a 7-6 lead. They would never trail again as Carr and Chamberlain hooked up for their 18-yard score for a 14-6 second-period advantage.

Terrence Holt gave APSU a temporary spark, returning the ensuing kickoff 95 yards, zigzagging through the Skyhawk coverage. It was Holt’s fourth career kickoff return for a TD. But Austin Peay was unable to convert the two-point attempt as the Govs trailed 14-12.

The Skyhawks scored one final time before half, this time on a Carr-to-Corey Jordan scoring toss as UT Martin took a 21-12 lead into intermission.

The halfback option pass for a score early in the fourth quarter put the game out of reach.
