Lady Govs basketball signs Stainback

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s basketball head coach Carrie Daniels will open her 2010 fall signing period with Kristen Stainback, one of Kentucky’s top prospects from Georgetown, KY, who signed a letter of intent, Wednesday.

Stainback, a 5-9 guard, led Scott County High School to the 2010 Kentucky State Championship game and was named to the state championship’s all-tournament team after scoring a tournament-best 102 points in the competition’s four games. She was named “Player of the Game” in both the first and second rounds, scoring 22 points in the opener and 28 points in the second round. Stainback followed that with 26 points in both the state semifinal and state championship contests.

After averaging 21 points and four rebounds per game as a sophomore, Stainback averaged 20 points and four rebounds per game as a junior. Each of the last two seasons she has been named All-Region 11 and to the All-Region 11 Tournament Team. Stainback also has been a All-District 42 selection each of her three years and was named to the District 42 all-tournament squad the last two seasons. She enters her senior campaign with 1,753 career points.

“We are thrilled to have Kristen join our program,” said Daniels. “We are very fortunate to be able to add a player of her caliber. Kristen is a pure shooter in every sense of the word – she has deep, deep range. In addition to that, she is a team player who, while she can drive to create her own shot, also uses the drive to set up her teammates. She comes to us from a tremendous prep program that has a history of success.”

Stainback enters her senior campaign highly regarded, with Rick Bolus’ High Potential Scouting Service ranking her as the No. 2 prospect in Kentucky in its September rankings. She also is a Kentucky’s “Miss Basketball” candidate.

Stainback selected the Lady Govs from a large pool of programs recruiting the talented athlete, including California, Eastern Kentucky, Western Kentucky and Evansville.
