Richards leads Lady Govs efforts at NCAA South Regional

Austin Peay State University GovernorsBirmingham, AL – Freshman Xiamar Richards led Austin Peay State University women’s cross country team at NCAA South Regional Championships, Saturday, at Veterans Park.

Only three Lady Govs made the trip to Birmingham and did not record a team score. Florida State won the meet with 24 points – each of its five scoring runners finishing among the top 10.

Richards led the Lady Govs effort with a time of 23:17.00, finishing 139th overall in the six-kilometer event. Junior Janelle Avery was 161st with a time of 23:59.71 and sophomore Alyssa Molnar completed the course with a time of 26:49.17, finishing 186th.

“Xiamar gave us an excellent effort today,” said cross country head coach Doug Molnar. “She broke our freshman mark in the six-kilometer distance. It was a tough course with the runners battling unsure footing. Given the conditions I thought our individuals ran a nice race.”
