Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Department of Allied Health in conjunction with a grant from the Student Academic Success Initiative (SASI) will sponsor its Health Screening Day later this month for the campus community.
The event will be from 9:30am-2:00pm, Wednesday, November 17th in the Morgan University Center (MUC) Ballroom.
Faculty, staff, and students will have an opportunity to participate in blood pressure screening, glucose screening for diabetes, cholesterol screening, and anemia. Basic blood typing will also be done.
Participants are advised that accurate cholesterol testing requires an eight-hour fast, and glucose screen requires a two-hour fast.
The screenings are made possible through funding from the APSU Student Academic Success Initiative (SASI) Grant. Students in the allied health department’s Medical Technology and Radiologic Technology programs will assist at the event.
The Medical Technology Program at APSU prepares a student to pursue a career as a medical laboratory professional/medical technologist. APSU offers a bachelor’s degree program in which a student can complete the necessary coursework in four years. Medical technologists work in all areas of the clinical laboratory, including blood banking, chemistry, hematology, immunology and microbiology.
