Hernandez, Alisaleh pick up OVC weekly honors

Austin Peay State University GovernorsBrentwood, TN – Junior Ilyanna Hernandez and senior Sarah Alisaleh each received one of the three weekly volleyball awards announced by the Ohio Valley Conference, Monday. Hernandez received the league’s offensive honor while Alisaleh picked up the league’s setter award.

Hernandez, of Torrance, CA, picked up her second weekly offensive honor after recording 28 kills and a .472 attack percentage in the Lady Govs two victories last week. She went errorless in 27 attempts against Tennessee State, finishing with 15 kills and a .556 attack percentage. Hernandez followed that with 13 kills and a .385 attack percentage against SIU Edwardsville in the regular-season finale.

Alisaleh, of San Antonio, Texas, received her second weekly setter award after averaging 14.17 assists in Austin Peay’s two regular-season ending victories. She recorded 43 assists in the three-set victory against Tennessee State and followed that with 42 assists in the three-set win against SIU Edwardsville. Alisaleh also led the Lady Govs with five service aces during the week, including four against SIUE.

Austin Peay finished the regular-season with eight weekly award winners, Hernandez, Alisaleh and junior Paige Economos each picking up two honors. Senior Taylor Skinner and sophomore Nikki Doyle also were honored once each.

The Lady Govs return to action at the 2010 OVC Volleyball Championships hosted by Morehead State. Austin Peay’s first match will be a 4:00pm (CT), Friday contest against the winner of the Jacksonville State/Tennessee Tech first-round match.
