Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – With its season’s first victory under its belt, Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team returns to action after a short two-day break with a 6:00pm (CT), Tuesday contest at Chattanooga.

Tuesday’s contest will be the third game of Austin Peay’s current seven-game road swing. The Lady Govs will not return home until a December 8th contest against Lipscomb.

The Lady Govs return to action following a split of two contests in Beaumont, Texas in the Preseason Women’s NIT. Austin Peay lost to Valparaiso, 72-57 on Friday, before defeating Utah Valley, 73-69 on Saturday. Junior Jasmine Rayner led the Lady Govs, averaging 16.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in the two games. Senior Dalila Thomas, her front-court mate, added 15.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.

Chattanooga enters Tuesday’s contest seeking its season’s first victory. The Lady Mocs lost their home opener to East Tennessee before suffering road losses at No. 4 Tennessee and, most recently, No. 18 Georgia. Junior Whitney Hood led UTC with 14 points at Georgia. The Lady Mocs attempted 26 three-pointers in the contest, making 13 (50.0 percent), with eight different players attempting an outside shot.

Next Up For The Lady Govs

Austin Peay will travel to both campuses of Southern Illinois University following the Thanksgiving holiday. The Lady Govs will meet SIU Edwardsville in a 7:00pm, Friday contest before meeting Southern Illinois (Carbondale) in a 2:00pm, Sunday affair.

Noting The Lady Govs Last Time Out

Austin Peay 73, Utah Valley 69 (November 20th • Beaumont, Texas)

Austin Peay trailed by seven points with 5:13 remaining in the game but outscored Utah Valley 18-7 over the final five minutes to post the victory. APSU finished with more assists (18) than turnovers (16) for the first time this season and for the first time in 12 games dating back to last season. After missing all six of its three pointers in the opening period, Austin Peay made 5-of-8 in the second half, junior Whitney Hanley sinking four.

The Lady Govs sealed the victory by making all six of its free throws in the final 30 seconds – four by senior Brooke Faulkner and two Hanley. Austin Peay’s frontcourt duo – junior Jasmine Rayner and senior Dalila Thomas – combined for 40 points and 14 rebounds, making 18-of-31 (58.1 percent) of their field goals… Thomas did the bulk of her damage in the first half, scoring 11 of her 19 points in the frame. Rayner held up her end of the bargain in the second half, scoring 13 of her game-high 21 in the period. Hanley finished with 16 points to lead the Lady Govs backcourt effort… The win snapped Austin Peay’s 13-game non-conference losing streak.
