Edmondson named Athlete of the Week

Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Tyshwan Edmondson, a junior on the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Tyshwan EdmondsonThe Hopkinsville, KY, native who consistently has seen his first name misspelled Tyshawn, has been named Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week after his superb play during the Chicago Invitational Challenge last week. He averaged 18.3 ppg during the tourney’s final three games, shooting 47.1 percent from the floor. He also had 10 steals (3.3), including five against Charleston Southern and three more against Oakland.

Edmondson was named to the CIC all-tourney team after leading the Govs in scoring in two of three games played, including 16 points in his first career start at No. 8 Purdue.

He also scored 25 in the Govs overtime loss against Oakland and taillied 16 points to go with six rebounds and five steals against Charleston Southern.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Junior Whitney Hanley, of the women’s basketball team posted the Lady Govs first double-double, scoring 20 points and grabbing 12 rebounds at SIUE, Friday, while also handing out six assists in a 39-minute outing. She followed that with another 20-point performance at Southern Illinois, grabbing five rebounds and nabbing two steals. She was one-point shy of posting three consecutive 20-point outings, beginning the week with 19 points and nine rebounds at Chattanooga.
  • Senior Terrence Holt, of the football team, was named first-team All-OVC Return Specialist for the third straight year, the league office announced, Tuesday. He joined Harold “Red” Roberts as the only Governors to receive three or more first-team honors during their respective careers. Holt became the only player in NCAA history to record four 1,000-yard kickoff return seasons.
