All-OVC Campbell tears knee ligaments, to miss season’s remainder

APSU Men’s Basketball

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Anthony Campbell, Austin Peay State University’s junior preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference forward, will miss the 2010-11 season’s remainder after tearing both the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his left knee during Wednesday afternoon’s practice.

“As much as it is a setback for our team,” APSU coach Dave Loos said, “I am more disappointed for Anthony. It’s demoralizing to a young man who is totally invested in this program and who works so hard to improve his game.  He is one of our most dedicated workers during the summer time as far as getting himself prepared.”

“We are going to have to make some serious adjustments as Anthony was an important part of this team. We are going to have to have some people step up.”

Anthony CampbellThe 6-7 Campbell was averaging 13.9 ppg and 3.5 rpg in his third APSU season. He earned second-team All-OVC a year ago after averaging 15.5 ppg and 5.3 rpg.

Campbell will use at least the rest of December in rehabilitation to strengthen the muscles in the knee and regaining the range of motion before undergoing surgery sometime in January.

Josh Terry (8.4 ppg, 3.1 rpg), the 6-5 junior forward who began the season as a starter, is expected to move into Campbell’s starting slot when the Governors play host to Fontbonne, 7:30pm, Saturday.
