Six 2nd Brigade Soldiers killed by a car bomb

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – Six 101st Airborne Division Soldiers died December 12th in Howz E Madad, Afghanistan when their unit was attacked by an insurgent with a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device.

The six Soldiers were Infantrymen assigned to Company B., 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). Killed were:

Sean Collins

Sean M. CollinsCpl. Sean M. Collins, 25, of  Ewa Beach, WA, joined the Army in April 2006 and arrived at Fort Campbell in January 2010.

Collins’ awards and decorations include: Army Commendation Medal; Valorous unit Award; Army Good Conduct medal; National Defense Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal; Iraqi Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Support Medal; Army Service Medal and the NATO Medal.

Collins is survived by his mother, Linda G. Collins of Yelm, WA, and father, Patrick B. Collins of Palolo Valley, Hawaii.

Willie McLawhorn

Willie A. McLawhorn Jr.Cpl. Willie A. McLawhorn Jr., 23, of Conway NC  joined the Army in November 2006 and arrived at Fort Campbell April 2007.

McLawhorn’s awards and decorations include: Army Commendation Medal; Army Good Conduct medal; National Defense Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon; Expert Infantry Badge, Parachutists Badge, and Air Assault Badge.

McLawhorn is survived by his mother, Diane B. McLawhorn; and father, Willie A. McLawhorn of Conway, NC.

Patrick Deans

Patrick D. DeansSpc. Patrick D. Deans, 22, of Orlando, FL joined the Army in June 2002 and arrived at Fort Campbell in November, 2007.

Deans’ award and decorations include: Army Commendation Medal; Army Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Army Service Medal and Overseas Service Ribbon.

Deans is survived by his mother, Robyn Deans of Altamonte Springs, FL; and father, Patrick Deans of Orlando.

Kenneth Necochea

Kenneth E. Necochea Jr.Spc. Kenneth E. Necochea Jr., 21, of San Diego, CA joined the Army in February 2009 and arrived at Fort Campbell in June 2009.

Necochea’s awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Army Service Medal.

Necochea is survived by his mother, Donna L. Wright of San Diego; and father, Kenneth E. Necochea of Ponway, CA.

Derek Simonetta

Derek T. SimonettaSpc. Derek T. Simonetta, 21, of Redwood City, CA Joined the Amy in September 2008 and arrived at Fort Campbell in June 2009.

Simonetta’s awards and decorations include: National Defense Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Army Service Ribbon.

Simonetta is survived by his wife, Kimberly A. Simonetta of San Carlos, CA; mother, Tanya Simonetta of Redding, CA, and father, James E. Lemp of Redwood City, CA.

Jorge Villacis

Jorge E. VillacisSpc. Jorge E. Villacis, 24, of Sunrise, FL joined the Army in September 2008 and arrived at Fort Campbell in February 2009.

Villacis’ awards and decorations include:  Army Achievement Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal; Global War Terrorism Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon, and Combat Infantry Badge.

Villacis is survived by his wife, Melissa Villacis; and children Zackert T. Devereaux, Julian E. Villacis and Jocelyn E. Villacis, all of Fort Campbell; mother Cecilia Villacis and father Jorge E. Villacis of Hollywood, FL.
