APSU faculty, staff announce achievements

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Two faculty and staff members at Austin Peay State University recently brought recognition to the University through their professional activities.

Lorneth Peters, academic counselor in TRiO Student Support Services, collaborated with professors from different universities to write an article for NACADA, titled “Advising Non-Traditional Students: Beyond Class Schedules and Degree Requirements.” The article can be found on the NACADA website at this link: www.nacada.ksu.edu/AAT/NW33_3.htm.

Dr. Timothy Winters, classics professor, was named the Reserve Officer of the Year for 2010 by the Clarksville Police Department. Winters became a reserve officer about four years ago, after a stint in the city’s Citizens Police Academy.
Reserve officers are unpaid volunteers who are limited to working up to 20 hours a week. They wear uniforms, carrying weapons they paid for, and accompany officers on any type of call that comes over the police radio.

Winters tries to volunteer about 30 hours each month, usually the night shift, and he has been praised by his colleagues as providing important assistance and backup in numerous situations.
