Warner named Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Darcie Warner, a senior on the Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Darcie WarnerWarner scored a career-high 17 points in the Lady Govs 70-60 Ohio Valley Conference win against Eastern Kentucky, Sunday. It was her season’s first double-digit scoring performance, despite averaging more than 24 minutes per game.

Against Eastern Kentucky, Warner’s 16 first-half points helped the Lady Govs build a 13-point lead which they held onto. It also was the Lady Govs season’s first home win.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Junior Melvin Baker, of the men’s basketball team, had two of his best APSU performances to date. He averaged 15.5 ppg and 9.5 rpg as the Govs split their week’s contests with a loss at Memphis followed by an OVC win against Eastern Kentucky. Baker had a double-double, 17 points and 11 rebounds at Memphis. He followed with 14 points and eight rebounds against EKU.
  • Freshman Nicole Olszewski, of the women’s basketball team, had a career-high 18 points in the win against Eastern Kentucky. While she did not have the best shooting night, she made 7-of-8 from the free throw line in the final minute to seal the victory against EKU. All three of her makes came from outside, one ending an EKU run that cut the lead to three points with 8:26 remaining.
  • Junior Josh Terry, of the men’s basketball team, averaged 14 ppg and 4.5 rpg over the week. The defensive stopper also had four steals per game and scored a career-best 22 points in the Govs win against Eastern Kentucky. In addition, he keyed an APSU defense that limited EKU to 35.2 percent shooting. Individually, in guarding Justin Stommes, he limited preseason All-OVC selection to just six points, permitting him no three-point attempts and just eight shot attempts overall.
