CYSS EDGE! January Programs

Morale, Welfare and RecreationFort Campbell, KY – Child, Youth & School Services (CYSS) is offering wonderful programs during the month of January for Fort Campbell youth. Experience, Develop, Grow, and Excel (EDGE) is an opportunity for kids to experience cutting edge art, fitness, life skills and adventure programs.

Nurture your inner Carlos Santana with an introduction to guitar at Taylor Youth Center. Six youth between the ages of 11 and 18 will learn how to identify the parts of the guitar, tune strings, and will be taught basic elements which distinguish between notes and chords. Come strum along in session one on January 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st, or for session two on January 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th; from 3:00pm to 4:00pm at Taylor Youth Center.  

Get ready to tumble into some fun with an introduction to gymnastics. Ten youth between the ages of 11 and 18 will be introduced to various warm-up and stretching activities, as well as several floor skills that will be put together to create a floor routine. Join EDGE! at Taylor Youth Center on January 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th from 3:00pm until 4:00pm, and let the fun begin.

Do you like working with your hands? Come enjoy creating a speaker box made out of wood that will hold 12 inch speakers. Youth ages 15 to 18 are welcome to join EDGE! Wood Working at the Guenette Arts and Crafts Center on January 5th, 6th, 12th, 13th and 19th from 4:00pm to 5:30pm. There are 10 participant slots available for this program.

ClaymationClaymation is the result of putting the use of clay together with animation. EDGE! is providing ten youth between the ages of 11 and 18 with the opportunity to participate in Claymation. Youth will generate a short animated film using clay characters they created during the class. EDGE! Claymation takes place at Taylor Youth Center on January 20th, 26h and 27th from 5:00pm to 6:00pm.

All interested participants must be registered with CYSS and can sign up for the various EDGE! programs at the Billy C. Colwell Child Development Center (Building 3301) or Taylor Youth Center. Depending on the location of the activity, transportation may or may not be provided by EDGE! staff.
