Attorney General Opinion on CDE Issues

Written by Councilman Bill Summers

City of Clarksville

Clarksville, TN – I just received the Attorney General (AG) opinion on the hiring of former Mayor Piper. You will see that three questions were asked.

Bottomline, as you read, is the city ordinances related to waiting periods does not override state law.

The Power Board and Mr. Piper were within legal parameters on the hiring. This confirms the legal info I had received and passed on to you in my article of January 11th on the CDE issue. Also, in my article I stated that CDE is a city function, which CDE has disputed in recent public comments. The AG states CDE is a city function.
