Nashville Lawn & Garden Show: Here We Grow Again!

On March 3rd – 6th at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds

Nashville Lawn and Garden ShowNashville, TN – The Nashville Lawn & Garden Show returns to the Tennessee State Fairgrounds  on Thursday, March 3rd, through Sunday, March 6th, ready to welcome thousands of people to Tennessee’s largest annual gardening event.  Here We Grow Again! is the theme for the 2011 celebration of all things “green and growing” that will mark the show’s 22nd anniversary at the Fairgrounds.

The 4-day event will feature an acre of live gardens, thousands of blooming flowers and plants, a floral design gallery, and 250 exhibit booths filled with horticultural products and services, gardening and lawn equipment, outdoor living decor, and a variety of plants, seeds and bulbs. Rosalind Creasy, nationally acclaimed edible landscape expert, James Robyn, designer and builder of European-influenced natural swimming pools, and Anthony Archer-Wills, creator of water gardens throughout the world, are among the more than 20 speakers who will present free lectures.

Homegrown horticulturists, the Davidson County Master Gardeners, will offer free demonstrations on gardening techniques and tips on growing specific flowers and plants.

“It’s a horticultural homecoming.  Everyone gathers to share gardening stories and information; stock up on inspiration, ideas and supplies; renew friendships; and plan and prepare for growing and enjoying all things green,” said Randall Lantz, co-manager of the show that is produced by the Horticultural Association of Tennessee and sponsored by Regions Bank. “Many gardeners, exhibitors and speakers who have participated since 1989 will be at the 2011 show. I know some people who have attended every year for 21 years.”

He added, “Of course, there is always something new to see and enjoy.”  More than 15 garden and floral designers and exhibitors are participating for the first time. They include Hewitt Garden and Design Center of Franklin, Masters Landscape Designs of Mt. Juliet, The Plant Doctor and Lazy B Ranch from LaVergne, Blooming Baskets of College Grove, Water Gems of Franklin, Country Mini Ponds from Winchester and exhibitors from Louisiana, Minnesota and New York.

More than 20 live gardens are the centerpiece of the event. Created by award-winning Tennessee landscapers and several horticultural organizations, each garden has a distinctive style. All of the gardens include hundreds of plants and most feature a fountain, pond or waterfall as well as structures such as terraced patios, walkways, gazebos or fireplaces.

The free lectures will provide inspiration, information and ideas on a variety of garden design, horticulture and wildlife topics. Rosalind Creasy will discuss Edible Landscaping: The New American Garden on March 4th at 2:00pm and on March 5th at 3:00pm. Gardener, food writer, photographer and landscape designer, she understood and embraced the concept and importance of sustainability several decades ago. Her 1982 classic, The Complete Book of Edible Landscaping, was published in an updated version in November 2010 and will be for sale at the show.

Water and gardens naturally go together. James Robyn, whose innovative pool designs have been featured in national publications including WaterShapes, will speak on March 4th at 5:00pm and March 5th at noon about Natural Swimming Pools, explaining how pools can incorporate a natural method for water purification using water plants instead of toxic disinfectant chemicals. Anthony Archer-Wills, developer of techniques adopted as the worldwide industry standard for building ponds and waterfalls, will make two presentations. On March 4th, at 4:00pm he will discuss Water Gardens: Essential Elements of Design and then on March 5th at 1:30pm, he will explain How to Construct Ponds, Streams & Waterfalls.
