Graduate education to be celebrated in March at APSU with 2 events

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – At the beginning of next month, Austin Peay State University will celebrate graduate education with two back-to-back events to promote and showcase the scholarship and creativity seen in the next level of postsecondary education.

First, undergraduate students can learn about APSU’s career-enhancing online and on-site graduate programs at the Graduate Education Event anytime between 10:00am-2:00pm, Tuesday, March 1st in the Morgan University Center, rooms 303 and 305.

Information about program-specific admission requirements, graduate assistantships and cost of attendance will be provided.

In addition, prospective graduate students who speak with representatives for at least one graduate program and submit a complete iPad drawing form will be eligible to win an iPad. The winner will be announced via e-mail the following day.

Then, from 10:00am-1:00pm, Wednesday, March 2nd, the campus and the public are invited to attend and see the research work of APSU’s graduate students at the second annual Graduate Student Research and Creative Activity Extravaganza. The event will be held in the Morgan University Center, rooms 303 and 305.

Currently, APSU graduate students have until February 25th to apply to enter their work in one of three divisions:

  • Creative Arts and Literature Expression (e.g., musical compositions, musical performances, literary works, audio and video presentations, website designs).
  • Completed Data-based Research (not necessarily yet defended, a completed research project with an abstract, introduction, method, results, discussion and references).
  • Non-empirical Research (no collection of data).

First place will be awarded to one entry in each division, with an honorable mention also given in all three. All participants will receive a certificate of recognition, and a monetary award will be presented to each of the three winners.

In addition, in observance of the fifth annual Graduate Education Week in Tennessee, April 4th-8th, the winner of the Completed Data-based Research division will showcase his or her work April 6th at the Legislative Plaza in Nashville. That event is sponsored by the Tennessee Conference of Graduate Schools.

The winner of that category also will present his or her work during APSU’s Provost Lecture Series.

Both March 1st and March 2nd events are sponsored by the APSU Office of Academic Affairs, Office of Grants and Sponsored Research and College of Graduate Studies.
