Austin Peay State University GovernorsConway, SC – Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team got off to a strong start in the first day of the Coastal Carolina Invitational.

In the team’s first outdoor meet, head coach Doug Molnar had great expectations and his team did not disappoint.

“I was real proud of our 4×200 team,” Molnar said. “It was a real nice effort by all of them and a real good start by our sprint crew.”

The 4×200 team brought home a second-place finish, while the 4×800 team finished fourth. The Lady Govs also got a personal best from Alyssa Molnar in the 3000-meter run and by Courtney Jordan in the hammer throw.

“Xiamer Richards started the 4×800 off with a real nice leg,” Molnar said. “Janelle Avery followed with a nice split as well and that was big. Overall, it was a good day. We’ve got things going in the outdoor season and we’re off to a good start. Tomorrow should be a big day as well.”

The Coastal Carolina Invitational continues at 9:00am, Saturday, with the remainder of the events taking place throughout the day.
