Out of Town Vehicle Burglars Come to Clarksville and Target Unlocked Vehicles

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – On March 29th, 2011, around 1:21am, a Leighton Court man called 911 and said that he looked outside of his window and saw a car parked in front of his house and the dome light to his wife’s car was on. When the man went outside the car left the area. That’s when the homeowner noticed a toolbox had been removed from his wife’s car.

His son identified the car as a red Ford Taurus and saw the vehicle leaving the area. Officers responded to the area and located the vehicle approximately 15 minutes later in the around Dunbar Cave Road and Idlewood Drive. A traffic stop was initiated on the vehicle and the stolen toolbox was in plain view inside of the Taurus.

The three vehicle occupants were detained and Detective Kevin Rushing was called to the scene and took over the investigation. During the course of the interview with the three suspects, they admitted to taking the toolbox without the owner’s consent.

There was also other property found inside of the vehicle such as; several GPS units, cell phones, tools, etc. which did not belong to the vehicle occupants. As the investigation progressed, it was discovered that for two of burglars, Marshel Williams and Kyle True, this was not their first burglary excursion to Clarksville. They came to Clarksville  four times over the last three weeks to specifically commit vehicle burglaries.

Their method of operation was the same for each trip. They would drive into a residential area, exit their vehicle, and locate vehicles that were unlocked or unsecure and take items from the vehicle. They were not selective in the property taken and targeted residential areas in the City and County.
