Mills named CIAF APSU Athlete of the Week

Amy MillsAustin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Junior Amy Mills, of the Austin Peay State University softball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

In five games last week the Chelsea, OK native hit .389 (7-18) with four RBIs, two doubles, a .500 slugging percentage and a .421 on-base percentage. Defensively Mills threw out three would-be stealers.

The junior catcher was clutch in the Lady Govs first Ohio Valley Conference win against UT Martin as she drove in the tying run in the top of the seventh with a single to center. Mills, capped her week with a 3-for-3 performance leading the Lady Govs to a 5-4 victory over Eastern Michigan. 

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Freshman Taelor Slaughter, of the track and field team, posted the OVC’s third-best 800-meter time of the season (2:21.84) at the Alabama Relays event. Her time was almost five seconds better than her last from two weeks ago. Slaughter also participated in the 4×400 helping post the league’s third-best time (3:54.70) of the season.
  • Junior Jeremy Dobbs, of the baseball team, continued his undefeated streak (5-0) on the mound winning his start at Murray State. Dobbs went 5.1 innings giving up two runs while striking out three.
  • Senior Chiamaka Obi, of the track and field team, had a strong performance at the Alabama Relays coming in third-place in the 400-meter dash (56.14). Obi also helped the Lady Govs post the OVC’s third-best time of the season in the 4×400 (3:54.70).
