APSU Women’s Softball
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will face one of the hottest teams in the Southeastern Conference, Wednesday afternoon, as the No. 18 Kentucky Wildcats come to Lady Govs Field for a 5:00pm doubleheader.
It will be the second meeting all-time between the two schools on the softball diamond, the first coming last season with the Lady Wildcats sweeping a doubleheader in Lexington, KY.
Overall, Morgan leads the Lady Govs pitching staff with a 5-9 win-loss record, a 3.69 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 93 innings of work.
Kentucky (25-7, 11-3 SEC) comes in having won its last six games – all in conference play – including a three-game sweep of then-No. 5 Florida this past weekend.
Offensively the Lady Govs are led by freshman Lauren de Castro, who enters the doubleheader hitting just under .300, with a .295 batting average – with three HR and 14 RBI to go with a team-best six doubles.
She is followed by a pair of juniors, Catie Cozart and Amy Mills, coming in hitting .274 and .269 respectively – with Cozart having two HRs and 12 RBI and Mills two HRs and 10 RBI.
Cozart also leads the Lady Govs with 17 runs scored, while senior Tiffany Smith leads Austin Peay with 17 RBI.
Kentucky comes into the doubleheader with five players hitting over .300, led by Meagan Aull’s .390 batting average – which includes five HRs and 23 RBI.
Chanda Bell tops the Wildcats pitching staff with a 9-4 win-loss mark, with 139 strikeouts in 92.1 innings of work and a 1.67 ERA.
