APSU Women’s Softball
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will host Murray State this weekend for a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series, beginning with a 1:00pm, Saturday doubleheader, followed by the 1:00pm, Sunday series finale.
Saturday’s game also will serve as the cornerstone event to the APSU Celebrate Women in Athletics weekend that, along with celebrating the first 25 years of Lady Govs softball, will see the home facility be renamed Cheryl Holt Field in a pregame ceremony to honor of the university’s first softball head coach and current woman’s senior administrator.
Also prior to the game, there will be a 9:00am, Fun Walk to Celebrate Women — starting on Drane Street near the softball field — to raise awareness and funds, followed by a 10:30am, tailgate brunch. Tickets for the brunch are $5.00.Austin Peay (8-28, 3-11 OVC) enters the series looking to end its current three-game losing streak, including an OVC loss to Tennessee State, Thursday.
The Lady Govs are led offensively by freshman Lauren de Castro, who enters the weekend batting .284, with 3 HR and 14 RBI.
She is followed by juniors Catie Cozart (.265, 2 HR, 12 RBI) and Amy Mills (.260, 2 HR, 10 RBI).
In the circle, sophomore Morgan Brewer leads the Austin Peay pitching staff with a 5-10 in-loss record, with a 3.92 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 100 innings of work.
Murray State is led at the plate by Lauren Bush (.400, 10 HR, 27 RBI) and in the circle by Shelby Kosmecki (5-3, 4.57 ERA, 52 Ks).
