Tennis Govs No. 2 seed in upcoming OVC Tournament

 

APSU Men’s Tennis

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team has earned a first-round bye in the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference Tennis Championships as the No. 2 seed. The Govs open tourney play with a 2:00pm, Saturday, match against the winner of No. 3 Tennessee Tech and #6 Murray State, at Larry J. Heflin Tennis Center in Paducah, KY.

Regular-season champion Eastern Kentucky is the top seed, playing the winner of No. 4 Jacksonville State and No. 5 Morehead State.  The opening matches begin at 10:00am, Friday.

OVC Tennis Tourney has Lady Govs seeded fourth

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team will begin its Ohio Valley Conference Tournament title defense as the No. 4 seed with a 10:00am, Friday match against No. 5 Murray State at the Larry J. Heflin Tennis Center, in Paducah, KY.

With a win, the Lady Govs would advance to play regular-season champion Jacksonville State in a 10:00am, Saturday match. No. 3 Eastern Kentucky and No. 6 Morehead State also play in first-round action, Friday, with the winner advancing to play No. 2 UT Martin.

Govs finish first round, ASU Red Wolf Classic suspended due to weather and darkness

Austin Peay State University GovernorsJonesboro, AR – Austin Peay men’s golf team shot an opening-round 307 to sit in 18th at the ASU Red Wolf Intercollegiate, hosted by Arkansas State, Monday at RidgePoint Country Club.

Heavy storms pounded the area off and on for much of the day forcing the 54-hole tournament to be shortened to 36-hole format. The event concludes with an 18-hole final round, beginning at 8:30am, Tuesday.

Sounds, RedHawks Postponed Due To Rain On Monday Night

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Tonight’s scheduled 7:05pm series opener between the Nashville Sounds and Oklahoma City RedHawks at Greer Stadium has been postponed due to unplayable field conditions resulting from heavy rains throughout Middle Tennessee.

Govs close out five-game homestand with Western Kentucky and Belmont

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN - Austin Peay closes out its current five-game homestand when it hosts midweek affairs with Western Kentucky and Belmont. The Govs and Hilltoppers will meet in a 6:00pm, Tuesday contest before Austin Peay hosts the Bruins in a 6:00pm, Wednesday affair – both games at Raymond C. Hand Park.

Austin Peay (15-15) improved to 5-3 in April with its 2-1 Ohio Valley Conference series victory against Eastern Kentucky, last weekend. It was the Govs first back-to-back conference series victories since the 2008 season.

Road Closure Planned for Legion Street

 

Tuesday, April 12th, 2011

Clarksville Gas and Water DepartmentClarksville, TN – A Gas and Water construction crew will close Legion Street from North Third Street to North Second Street on Tuesday evening at 9:00pm to replace a fire hydrant near the intersection of North Third and Legion.

The work is expected to be complete and the street reopened by 1:00am Wednesday morning.

ACS New Parent Support Program Helps Reconnect after Deployment

 

Morale, Welfare and RecreationFort Campbell, KY - Young children’s concept of time is skewed and it is hard for them to grasp how long someone is away. With deployments there is a period of time when the Soldier must reconnect with their Family when they return. During this time children can have different reactions to the Soldier who is now a part of their life after such a long time away.

This readjusting period can be stressful for both the Family and the Soldier. Army Community Service New Parent Support Program is offering a parenting workshop on April 15th for parents of children ages 0 to 3 years to address the issues associated with reconnecting after deployment. «Read the rest of this article»

Lady Govs host UT Martin for mid-week conference tilt

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team looks to turn around its recent struggles, 5:00pm, Tuesday, as it hosts UT Martin for a single Ohio Valley Conference contest at Cheryl Holt Field.

The Lady Govs (9-29, 4-13 OVC) lost five of six games this past week, including two-of-three to Murray State in the weekend conference series. But APSU comes into Tuesday’s contest already having beaten the Skyhawks once in their first meeting, 7-6, in nine innings during the first game of a doubleheader in Martin, March 22nd.

Vehicle Crashes Into a Tree; Man in Stable Condition

 

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – On April 10th, around 7:00pm, the Fatal Accident Crash Team  (F.A.C.T) responded to a motor vehicle crash in the area of 3425 Pembroke Road.  Carlos M. Bourne, 33  was traveling on Pembroke Road out of Kentucky into Clarksville when he lost control of his Chevy Tahoe, left the roadway, crossed two driveways, hit a culvert, went airborne, and collided with a tree in the yard at 3418 Pembroke Road.
