Golden Pond, KY – Come out to Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area for a volunteer day on Saturday, April 23rd. LBL staff will be offering a variety of family friendly activities that provide everyone an opportunity to give back while enjoying the great outdoors.
“Volunteers are very important to public lands, and we welcome anyone who is interested. This is a wonderful way to meet some great people with similar interests and learn more about LBL and other volunteer opportunities available here,” said Emily Schmadeke, Volunteer Coordinator with “Friends of LBL.”
If you’re new to volunteering, stop by Energy Lake Dam from 10:00am-2:00pm for Spring Into Action: Volunteering at LBL to learn more about volunteer opportunities.
Other volunteer activities include a Canoe & Kayak Cleanup at Energy Lake Dam from 8:30am-12:00pm. Bring your boats and meet at Energy Lake Dam for a morning of great paddling with a cause. We’ll collect trash and recyclables from the banks of Crooked Creek Bay on the Cumberland River. You’ll have a great time and a chance to meet other paddlers from the area. Woodlands Nature Station will also be offering ECO-Heroes Training for kids from 1:00pm-4:00pm. Come to learn how you can do your part for conservation by becoming an ECO-Hero. Participants will find out how easy it is to help by reducing, reusing, recycling, and rotting. ECO-Heroes will proudly leave wearing their official badges and carrying certificates as proof of their planet protection powers! The program cost is $5.00/child (includes NS admission) and $4.00 regular adult admission for parents who wish to stay. This program is appropriate for ages 8-12, and advanced registration is required. Call 270-924-2020 to reserve your space.
Volunteer participants are encouraged to bring plenty of drinking water, lunch and snacks, sturdy boots (no flip-flops or open-toe shoes), work gloves, and eye protection with them. The staff and volunteers from LBL and “Friends of LBL” (LBL Association) have planned several other volunteer activities throughout the year.
