Sea Ray Relays give Lady Govs track chance to improve

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay women’s track and field team returns to action at Tennessee’s 45th Annual Sea Ray Relays, beginning Friday, in Knoxville TN.

The Lady Govs will take a small contingent to Knoxville looking to improve times on the track, while also solidifying their work on the triple jump. While Austin Peay showed improvement in its last meet, the Austin Peay Invitational, there remains plenty to be shored up as the outdoor season’s halfway point nears.

Austin Peay has athletes slated to run the 100-meter and 400-meter dashes. Sophomore Cenitra Hudson and senior Candace Cullors are slated for the 100-meter dash, while senior Chiamaka Obi and junior Jasmine Scott will be looking to improve times in the 400-meter dash. Freshman Taelor Slaughter also will run the 800-meters.

Sophomores Leigha Tolliver and Ashley Carson will run the 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles, respectively. Both  already hold the Lady Govs best outdoor marks, but are still looking to shave time.

Both relay teams will be looking for improved times as well. The 4×100 relay is one the Lady Govs have improved from meet to meet. However, the current 48.35 time, set last week at the Austin Peay Invite, is more than two seconds off the OVC’s best time. APSU’s 4×400 relay team set its best time at the Alabama Relays (3:54.70) which is the OVC’s fifth-best.
