Piper announces resignation from CDE Lightband

Johnny Piper
Clarksville, TN – In a surprise announcement today, Johnny Piper announced that he would be stepping down as the Superintendent of the Clarksville Department of Electricity.

His resignation will become effective on July 1st 2011; six months after initially being hired as the superintendent for CDE Lightband. While holding the position, Piper hired a Communications Director, a Human Resources Director, and launched a $390,000 renovation of the CDE offices on Wilma Rudolph Blvd.

The hiring was mired in a swarm of controversy from the moment it was announced, and resulted in a request by Mayor Kim McMillan for the Tennessee Attorney General to render an opinion on the legality of the hiring. The hiring was ruled legal, however issues with the makeup of the Power Board came to light, the implications of which are still being dealt with in court.
