Fort Campbell Soldier succumbs to wounds received during suicide attack

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionSonny MosesFort Campbell, KY – A 101st Sustainment Brigade Soldier died of wounds April 18th as a result of a suicide attack that took place during a meeting on Forward Operating Base Gamberi, Nangarhar province, Afghanistan, Wednesday, April 16th.

Specialist Sonny Jade Moses, 22, of Koror, Palau, was a Signal Support Systems Specialist assigned to Headquarters and headquarters Company, 101st Special Troops Battalion, 101st Sustainment Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, KY. He died at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Landstuhl, Germany. He joined the Army in August 2006 and arrived at Fort Campbell in November 2009.

His awards and decorations include: Army Commendation Medal; Army Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal and Air Assault Badge.

Moses is survived by his wife, Rachel Coots-Moses and daughter, Juanita Moses, both of Oak Grove, KY. He is also survived by his father, Sudo Moses and mother, Anemary Moses, both of Koror, Palau.

A memorial service has been held for Moses in Afghanistan. Fort Campbell holds a monthly Eagle Remembrance Ceremony to honor fallen Screaming Eagles. The next ceremony will be held May 11th at 4:00pm.
