Lady Govs drop series finale to Panthers

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay’s softball team gave up two big innings to Ohio Valley Conference leader Eastern Illinois, Saturday at Cheryl Holt Field, to lose the rubber-game of its Ohio Valley Conference series to the Panthers, 11-2.

Eastern Illinois (34-9, 21-3 OVC) broke the game open with a five-run third inning, as Reynae Hutchinson and Morgan Biel both doubled and drove in two runs each in the inning.

The other run in the inning scored off a sacrifice fly by Ashleigh Westover.

Austin Peay (11-35, 6-18 OVC) would get as close as 5-2 after four innings, with the Lady Govs scoring single runs in both the third and fourth innings.

The first run came on an RBI single by junior Amy Mills scoring senior Randal Davenport, who reached on a bunt single, and the second on red-shirt sophomore Shelby Norton’s fifth home run of the season in the fourth inning.

Jessica RyanMills recorded two hits to lead the Lady Govs, while red-shirt sophomore Jessica Ryan had the other Lady Govs hit.

The Panthers put the game away in the fifth by scoring six runs, including two on an RBI single by Melise Brown and two more on a double by Carly Willert.

Willert finished with three hits on the day.

The other two came in on a wild pitch and a base-loaded walk to Amanda Bilina.

The Lady Govs are back in action Tuesday, April 26th when the Tennessee Lady Vols come to Clarksville. The game will begin at 5:00pm at Cheryl Holt Field.
