Lady Govs make season’s final road trip to face Golden Eagles

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team makes its season’s final road trip this weekend to face Tennessee Tech in a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series.

The series opens with a, 1:00pm, Saturday doubleheader at the TTU Softball Field and concludes Sunday with a 1:00pm, single game.

The weekend series is for are all intents and purposes the final line in the sand for both teams, with Austin Peay (11-35, 6-18 OVC) and Tennessee Tech (18-24, 9-14 OVC) on the outside looking in as far as advancing into the OVC’s post-season tournament. Both teams mathematically still are alive heading into the final six conference games, but both need a series sweep from the other to have any chance to sneak into the tournament field during the regular season’s final weekend, May 7th-8th.

Lauren de CastroOffensively the Lady Govs are led by freshman Lauren de Castro, who enters the weekend hitting at a .264 clip, including seven doubles and three home runs.

Right behind are juniors Catie Cozart (.261, 3 HR, 14 RBI) and Amy Mills (.254, 3 HR, 15 RBI).

Cozart also leads the Austin Peay with 20 runs scored, while senior Tiffany Smith tops the Lady Govs with 20 RBIs.

The Golden Eagles are led at the plate by Melony Christian (.359, 1 HR, 12 RBI) and Chanelle Spalding (.328, 3 HR, 16 RBI).

Morgan BrewerIn the circle for Austin Peay, sophomore Morgan Brewer leads the Lady Govs with a 7-14 win-loss mark and a 3.92 ERA, with 68 strikeouts in 143 innings of work.

Tennessee Tech’s top pitcher is Holly Thomas, who comes in with a 13-8 record, 3.25 ERA and 117 strikeouts in 146.2 innings.
