Child, Youth and School Services EDGE! May Programs

Morale, Welfare and RecreationFort Campbell, KY – Child, Youth & School Services (CYSS) is offering wonderful programs during the month of May for Fort Campbell youth. Experience, Develop, Grow, and Excel (EDGE) is an opportunity for kids to experience cutting edge art, fitness, life skills and adventure programs.

With summer right around the corner make sure you are ready to be the ultimate grill master with “Get Grillin'” from EDGE! Come get your grill on and learn how to grill corn on the cob, prepare delicious sides, and of course, burgers and hotdogs. Join Chef Bob every Monday at the pavilion near Richardson Lodging (inside gate 1), from 4:30pm to 6:00pm. This yummy opportunity is for 10 youth ages 11 to 18.

Walk this way and strike a pose! If you have an interest in fashion and couture, come to this introductory class and learn techniques in applying make-up, wardrobe, and photo shoots. Discover the proper way to walk down the runway like a supermodel, and learn how to look the part. 12 youth between the ages 11 to 18 will meet at Taylor Youth Center on May 2nd, 9th, 16th, and 23rd, from 3:45pm to 4:30pm.

Participants will receive a CD with their modeling photos.

Unearth your inner Carlos Santana with an introduction to guitar at Taylor Youth Center. Six youth between the ages of 11 and 18 will learn how to identify the parts of the guitar, tune strings, and will be taught basic elements which distinguish between notes and chords. Come strum along on May 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th; from 5:00pm to 6:00pm at Taylor Youth Center.

Come play on the outdoor ropes course on May 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th, from 3:30pm to 5:00pm. The climbing wall has many different routes with eight varying sides offering routes from beginner to advance. This clinic will cover the basics of using the low ropes course and to prepare participants to see if they have what it takes to conquer the Alpine Tower, Odyssey, and Carolina T Wall of the high ropes courses. This is a great way to develop team building skills. Twelve spaces are available for youth ages 11 to 18.

EDGE! has the perfect opportunity for thirty teens ages 11 to 18 who enjoy bowling. EDGE! Strike N’ Spare course takes place on May 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th, from 4:00pm until 5:30pm. Youth can join the Strike N’ Spare program at any time during the month. Remember to bring a pair of socks.

Every Thursday starting May 5th through May 26th, youth 11 to 18 can learn the art and skill of archery in EDGE! Archery. Learn how to use protective equipment, how to raise and draw a compound bow, the proper stance of a good bowman, and then aim for the bulls eye with instinctive shooting techniques. An instructor will be teaching the kids how to correctly hold, shoot, and use a bow and arrow from 3:30pm to 5:00pm.

All equipment will be provided by EDGE! There are a total of twelve spaces available.

Pump up the jams and feel the beat of the music as you Zumba with EDGE! That’s right; the latest fitness craze will be taking place at Taylor Youth Center. Join the fun and excitement, and discover why everyone that has tried Zumba loves it on May 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th. From 4:00pm to 5:00pm twenty youth ages 11 to 18 can enjoy high-energy Latin and international rhythms with easy to follow moves that create a dynamic fitness class. EDGE! students may bring one guest per class.

Fore! Come get swinging at the Cole Park Golf Club and EDGE! With 10 spaces available for youth 11 to 18, fun is surely to be had as participants will learn how to develop their golf swing while expanding their knowledge of this mental and physical sport. Clubs will get swinging every Friday in May from 4:30pm to 5:30pm. Participants need to wear athletic shoes and a shirt with sleeves.

Enjoy an exciting opportunity to engage in non-contact, continuous action while learning lessons in teamwork. Learn how to confuse your opponent with running plays, misdirection and sweeps. Youth can win games and be more confident and enthusiastic about playing a great game of flag football with EDGE! Flag Football on May 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th, from 4:30pm to 5:30pm. Spaces for twenty participants are available.

All interested participants must be registered with CYSS and can sign up for the various EDGE! programs at the Billy C. Colwell Child Development Center (Building 3301) or Taylor Youth Center. Depending on the location of the activity, transportation to some activities is provided by EDGE! staff.
