City postpones 2010 Flood commemoration

City of ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville will reschedule a commemoration of the 2010 Flood planned for today at the Cumberland RiverCenter Pavilion amphitheater of McGregor Park because of high waters from recent severe weather. No new date has been set for the ceremony.

The event will mark the one-year anniversary of historic flooding that began May 1st, 2010, and will provide an opportunity for city and county officials to pay tribute to those who ensured the safety of citizens during the disaster.  Additionally, officials want to salute the many businesses along Riverside Drive that have since made repairs and reopened.  Recognition also will be given to the scores of volunteers and city and county employees who tirelessly helped with the clean up in the days, weeks and months that followed last year’s disaster.

The commemoration was not widely publicized and promoted because of the recent severe weather and the continued potential for flooding. The site for the planned ceremony is currently covered by waters of the Cumberland River.
