Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend at LBL with River Days

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – May 28th-30th, water and nature lovers are invited to Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area to experience River Days.  Activities will take place at Woodlands Nature Station (NS) in the Kentucky Portion of LBL. 

Darrin Samborski, Environmental Education Specialist at LBL, invites visitors to celebrate National Wetlands Month and Memorial Day Weekend at LBL.  “We will offer a variety of programs focusing on outdoor skills, river heritage, natural encounters, and folklore about rivers in our region.

Please join us at the NS to learn all about the animals that make rivers and lakes their homes.  We will have onsite programs, crafts, and excursions out on the water.”

NS River Days has activities and events for all ages.

The following is a complete list of events:

Saturday, May 28th

“CSI: Critter Scene Investi-“gators” Scavenger Hunt” & Meet Smokey Bear (throughout the day)

  • 11:00am – King of the Fisherman: The Bald Eagle
  • 1:00pm-3:00pm – Crazy Quacker Kids’ Craft
  • 3:30pm – Meet the Monster: The Alligator Snapper
  • 6:00pm-8:30pm – Sunset Canoe Trip

Sunday, May 29th

  • 11:00am – River Owl: The Barred Owl
  • 1:30pm – Riverbank Puppet Show 
  • 3:30pm – A Serious Case of the Uglies: Strange Animals of LBL
  • 6:00pm-8:30pm – Family Oriented Sunset Canoe Trip

Monday, May 30th

  • 11:30am – Let the Turtle Races Begin
  • 1:00pm-3:30pm – Pond Prowl

Some events require reservations and fees.

Bring sunscreen, picnic baskets, and for certain activities clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting wet and muddy. LBL is located approximately 90 miles northwest of Nashville, TN. There are several options for overnight accommodations; camping is available at LBL and at private campgrounds in the area. Lodging is also available at state resort parks and motels in the surrounding area.
