Friends of Dunbar Cave Park Donate New Interpretive Signs

Clarksville, TN – The Friends of Dunbar Cave recently donated several new interpretative signs at the park.  The park’s Interpretative Specialist, Amy Wallace said, “We wanted to have something at the cave to interpret what people were seeing when we could not be there to explain it to them.  The idea had come and gone throughout the years, but didn’t get done until the Friends group offered to fund interpretive displays.”

Amy Wallace came up with the topics to be covered and how the information was to be shown.  “I wanted to cover only what could be seen while standing at the cave entrance, so the topics chosen were prehistory (how the cave entrance was used in the distant past), resort era (what were the structures used for?), current times (how that part of the cave is used now) and the lake (what might you see around the lake?)”.

The text was mostly written by Amy Wallace, with input from Ryan Forbess, David Britton, Adam Neblett, John Froeschauer, and Ward Weems. John Froeschauer wrote the text for the prehistory panel.    Ryan Forbess also designed the panels with help from  worked with Amy Wallace, Adam Neblett and David Britton. The postcards and old photographs were from the park’s collection, donated by various persons through the years.  The photos of animals and plants were taken by Amy Wallace and Ruthann Cashner.

Thanks to everyone who donated time, money, and knowledge to enhance our city’s only state park!

The Friends of Dunbar Cave (FODC) is a non-profit group that solely created to support the park.  FODC also provides items such as these interpretative panels, trail mulch, as well as sponsoring several annual events, including the recently successful Spring Fling.
