Driver Safety Tips

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – Half of our crashes on the roadway last week were rear end crashes. They were categorized as inattention, careless driving and following improperly. However they were classified, it is simply a matter of being unable to stop in time to avoid a hazard in front.

Several of these were crashes where the at-fault driver in a merge lane “thought” that the driver in front of them had “already gone”. The at-fault driver looked back over their left shoulder and missed the fact that the vehicle in front had not merged into traffic; resulting in a rear end collision.

In a merge situation, please wait for the driver in front of you to enter the traffic lane before taking your attention away from what is in front of your car. Allow at least three seconds between you and the car in front of you when you are driving in traffic. This Holiday weekend, we hope everyone will take their time and pay close attention to other vehicles on the roadway.

Drive Defensively!
