Jump into Summer with Outdoor Recreation Adventure Programs

Morale, Welfare and RecreationFort Campbell, KY – Learn the basics of climbing with Climbing 101 on June 7th from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. This clinic will cover the basics of rock climbing such as belay technique, equipment use, proper climbing technique, and will prepare you with the basic knowledge to venture into the high adrenaline based sport of rock climbing. Meet at Challenge Course Complex. The fee for the Climbing 101 clinic is $15.00 and participants must be at least 16 years of age.

Preregistration required by 2:00pm on June 7th.  

Get camping with ODR for an overnight camping trip to Big South Fork June 11th through 12th. Encompassing 125,000 acres of the Cumberland Plateau, Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area protects the free-flowing Big South Fork of the Cumberland River and its tributaries. The area boasts miles of scenic gorges and sandstone bluffs, and is rich with natural and historic features. We will be paddling a 19 mile stretch of river, encompassing small amounts of white water up to class II+.

We will depart early Saturday morning and upon arrival, paddle nearly 10 miles to Big Shoals campsite (primitive backcountry). Here we will make camp for the night, and enjoy a catered dinner with all the fixins’. Sunday morning will start off with faster water until reaching Devils Falls, a portage able class IV rapid before reaching the take out. This trip includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner (Saturday), breakfast and lunch (Sunday), transportation, and river equipment. Please bring your own sleeping bag, sleeping pad, and tent.

Previous canoe experience strongly recommended but not required. Cost of trip is $85.00 per person and pre-registration is required by 4.00pm on June 9th. There is also a mandatory pre-trip meeting at 5:00pm on June 9th at the main ODR office.

Join us for a moderate hiking trip on June 11th, from 8:00am to 6:00pm. This trip will provide gorgeous views of cascades, gorges, waterfalls, streams, and virgin hardwood timbers. Fall Creek Falls is the largest waterfall in the eastern US, dropping a total of 256 feet! Bring lunch, snacks, water, and don’t forget your camera! Cost is $15.00 per person and pre-registration is required by 4:00pm on June 10th.

Calling all mountain bikers! Join Outdoor Recreation for a trail ride through the trails located around Outdoor Recreation on June 13th at 4:30pm. This is a great way to meet people who share the love for mountain biking. If you do not have a bike but are interested in participating the fee is $5.00 per person. However bring your own bike and the Mountain Bike Meet-up is free. Everyone age 14 and up is welcome. Pre-registration is not required, but strongly encouraged for anyone needing a bike. Please pre-register by 2:00pm on June 13th.

On June 18th join Outdoor Recreation for a rafting trip. The Ocoee River is home to the 1996 US Olympics and is one of the gems in the whitewater industry. Located in southeastern TN, this river provides nearly 6 miles of action packed class III-III+ non-stop rapids. All rafting equipment provided, bring secure shoes, (no flip-flops or bare feet) and money for dinner on the way home. Meet at Outdoor Recreation at 6:00am and pre-registration is required by 4:00pm on June 6th.

We are women; hear us roar with Outdoor Recreation’s Women in the Wilderness adventure series! Get your best girlfriends together for an opportunity for some great outdoor fun and adventure. Women in the Wilderness is a program designed for women 18 years old and up to enjoy outdoor sports and learn new skills, as well as meet likeminded women who want to live a healthy, outdoor lifestyle. In February we will be focusing on Mountain Biking. Preregistration required by close of business the day prior to clinic or trip date.

Bike Maintenance Class (On Post)   
June 21st – 5:30pm – 7:30pm – $7.00 per person                                          

Intro to Mountain Biking (On Post)
June 23rd – 10:00am – 12:00pm – $9.00 per person

Chickasaw Trace Day Trip
June 26th – 8:00am – $15.00 per person

Join Outdoor Recreation in their Family Floats Canoe Trip. Trip covers a 4 mile stretch of the Cumberland River. Transportation and equipment provided. Meet at ODR for trip departure on June 22nd from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. Pre-registration required by 2:00pm day of trip and costs $5.00 per person.

ODR is hosting an Outdoor Adventure Film Series, which will continue throughout summer and fall. On June 24th a film will be featured monthly relating to the outdoors. Check with Outdoor Recreation or the MWR Facebook page for the film of the month. All attending will meet at the Challenge Course Complex at 7:00pm. The cost to view the film is $5.00 per person and preregistration is required by 4:00pm on the June 24th.

Kings Bluff is located in downtown Clarksville and is a great beginner to intermediate climbing area. With climbs ranging from 20-70 feet this area has something to offer everyone. Join Outdoor Recreation on June 25th from 9:00am to 3:00pm for a climbing day trip. The cost is $25.00 per person and no previous experience necessary. All equipment, instruction and transportation required. Meet at Outdoor Recreation and make sure you pre-register by 4:00pm on June 24th.

Outdoor Recreation also does customized private trips for units or Family Readiness Groups (FRGs). Trip registration can be done in person or over the phone, seven days a week, between the hours of 7:30am and 4:30pm. Locations and times of trips are subject to change due to weather conditions. Please dress appropriately for each event. Cancellations initiated by the participant 48 hours in advance of the trip are entitled to a full refund. However, refunds for cancellations made within 48 hours of the trip will be determined by management.
