Enjoy the Independence of ODR’s July Adventure Programs

Morale, Welfare and RecreationFort Campbell, KY – Learn the basics of climbing with Climbing 101 on July 5th from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at King’s Bluff. This clinic will cover the basics of rock climbing such as belay technique, equipment use, proper climbing technique, and will prepare you with the basic knowledge to venture into the high adrenaline based sport of rock climbing.

Meet at the Outdoor Recreation Main Office. The fee for the Climbing 101 clinic is $15.00 and participants must be at least 16 years of age. Transportation is provided and preregistration required by 2:00pm on July 5th.

Whitewater kayaking is one of the fastest growing adrenaline based sports in the outdoor industry. The Southeast is considered by many to be the birthplace of the sport, with many great rivers and creeks on which to learn. Join ODR as we teach you the basics of the sport, first on the lake and then on one of the many great rivers located in the Smoky Mountain range on July 8th through July 10th. $125.00 trip fee includes transportation, lodging (camping), food, equipment, and instruction. No prior experience required, however all participants MUST be able to swim and be at least 16 years old. All logistics will be covered at the mandatory Pre-Trip and Lake Skills Session on July 7th at Lake Kyle from 4:00pm to 7:00pm.

Calling all mountain bikers! Join Outdoor Recreation for a trail ride through the trails located around Outdoor Recreation on July 11th at 4:30pm. This is a great way to meet people who share the love for mountain biking. If you do not have a bike but are interested in participating the fee is $5.00 per person. However, bring your own bike and the Mountain Bike Meet-up is free. Everyone age 14 and up is welcome. Pre-registration is not required, but strongly encouraged for anyone needing a bike. Please pre-register by 2:00pm on July 11th.

Bring the Family out for a camping weekend at Lake Kyle; located on the back 40 and outside of Gate 10, is a rare gem to the Fort Campbell community. The lake provides a great resource to canoe and kayak on while enjoying and relaxing in the outdoors. Outdoor Recreation will be providing canoes and kayaks, bikes, dinner and breakfast, a campfire, and s’mores to cook over the open fire for all the camping fun from July 16th at 4:00pm to 2:00pm on July 17th. Fishing is allowed; make sure you obtain all proper permits and licensing from the Main ODR office prior to trip. This is a great way to relax under the stars with your Family. Please bring your own tent, sleeping bags, and any personal items you may need for a night in the outdoors. Family camping weekend cost $15.00 per person and preregistration is required by 4:00pm on July 15th.

Join us for this challenging hiking trip to Virgin Falls in the Pocket Wilderness on July 23rd from 8:00am to 9:00pm. This in and out trip totaling nearly 9 miles, will offer breathtaking landscapes, deep woods and unique combination of caves and waterfalls. Bring lunch, snacks, water, and don’t forget your camera! Cost is $15.00 per person and participants must be at least 8 years old and preregister by 4:00pm on July 22nd.

Join Outdoor Recreation in their Family Floats Canoe Trip. Trip covers a 4 mile stretch of the Cumberland River. Transportation and equipment provided. Meet at ODR for trip departure on July 27th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. Preregistration required by 2:00pm day of trip and costs $5.00 per person.

Come get wet with the Ocoee Rafting of the Upper and Middle parts of the river on July 30th. The Ocoee River, home to the 1996 US Olympics, is one of the gems in the whitewater industry. Located in southeastern TN, we will be paddling 8 plus miles on two different stretches the Upper (Olympic Stretch) and Middle with rapids from class III-IV. $135.00 covers the cost of all rafting equipment provided, transportation, and instruction. Bring secure shoes, (no flip-flops or bare feet) a sacked lunch or snacks and money for dinner on the way home. Meet at Outdoor Recreation Main Office at 6:00am. Preregistration is required by 4:00pm on July 18th.

Outdoor Recreation also does customized private trips for units or Family Readiness Groups (FRGs). Trip registration can be done in person or over the phone, seven days a week, between the hours of 7:30am and 4:30pm. Locations and times of trips are subject to change due to weather conditions. Please dress appropriately for each event. Cancellations initiated by the participant 48 hours in advance of the trip are entitled to a full refund. However, refunds for cancellations made within 48 hours of the trip will be determined by management.
