Springfield Murder Suspect added to Tennessee’s Most Wanted List

Tennessee Bureau of InvestigationNashville, TN – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation today added a Springfield, Tennessee murder suspect to the state’s most wanted fugitive list. Thirty-four year old Thomas Lamont Dowlen is wanted by the Springfield Police Department on one count of criminal homicide and two counts of aggravated assault after a shooting incident in Springfield last month. He’s the latest addition to TBI’s Top Ten Most Wanted list.

At approximately 3:30pm on June 30th, 2011, Dowlen shot the victim, Candice Marie Owens, multiple times in the legs and torso causing her death. An eye witness advised the Springfield Police Department that Dowlen shot Owens after she refused to tell him the location of his girlfriend. Another witness saw Dowlen drive away in an older model maroon colored vehicle. The murder happened at 109 12th Avenue East.

Dowlen has a lengthy history of violence and an arrest history dating back to 1997 that includes resisting arrest, felony possession of a handgun, possession of stolen property, failure to appear, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, driving on a suspended license and reckless operation of a boat. Dowlen’s last known address is 423 20th Avenue West in Springfield.

Dowlen is a black male with black hair and brown eyes. He is 6’1,” weighs 230 lbs and also goes by “Thomas Pratt” and “Thomas Chapman.” He has tattoos on his back, chest, abdomen and both arms and legs. The tattoo on his right arm is a heart and the tattoo on his stomach reads “Thomas.”

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Thomas Lamont Dowlen is urged to call the TBI at 1.800.TBI.FIND. There is a $1,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.
