Packed House Watches Nashville Win, 3-2, Over Round Rock In Home Opener

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds topped the Round Rock Express in an exciting 3-2 victory in the opener of a four-game set in front of 9,503 fans at Greer Stadium on Saturday night.

Center fielder Logan Schafer and second baseman Eric Farris each doubled while recording three hits in the victory. The three-hit game for Schafer was his first of the season and also extended his hitting streak to nine games, the longest active streak on the club.

In his first game back with the Sounds, Farris went a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Jordan Brown and Taylor Green accounted for the club’s other two hits.

Nashville has played a PCL-high 45 one-run games this season, going 21-24 in those contests. The Sounds’ 21 one-run are the second-most in the PCL behind Sacramento’s 22 victories.

In his eighth quality start, Sounds starter Sam Narron (5-4) allowed one run on five hits with six strikeouts in six innings of work. Narron’s six strikeouts all occurred through the first 10 batters he faced. Narron has recorded a 2.66 ERA (6er/20.1ip) with 16 strikeouts in three starts against Round Rock this season.

The Express plated their first run in the top of the fifth inning. Right fielder Joey Butler singled to lead off the frame. The next batter Matt Kata then lined a double off the wall in left field, but Butler was victim of Nashville’s 36th outfield assist as Jordan Brown threw out Butler at home. Two batters later, Leonys Martin singled home Kata.

The Sounds knotted the contest at 1-1 in the next frame as Eric Farris hit a one-out with a double over the first baseman’s head to reach. Farris then stole third base and scored on Logan Schafer’s two-out double that one-hopped the center field wall.

Nashville took a 3-1 lead in the next inning as the Taylor Green led off the frame with a single. Taylor Green moved to second on a wild pitch, so Round Rock starter Ryan Tucker intentionally walked Mat Gamel. Later in the frame after Caleb Gindl worked a two-out walk, Eric Farris lined a two-run single to center that chased Tucker from the game.

The Express made the game exciting by scoring an unearned run in the top of the ninth inning. Butler lined a two-out double down the left field line and scored on the next play as Maysonet made a throwing error. Robinson Diaz then belted a long fly ball to deep center field, but Schafer was there to make a running catch at the wall to finish the game.

Zach Segovia struck out one batter over two shutout frames in relief for his fifth straight scoreless appearance. Mike McClendon notched his sixth save.

Tucker surrendered three runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings for the loss.

The Sounds and Express continue their series at 6:35pm CT on Sunday night at Greer Stadium. Right-hander Josh Butler (6-5, 4.70) takes the mound for Nashville against Round Rock southpaw Martin Perez (1-2, 8.10).
