Clarksville Police want to make the Public Aware of the Current Crime Trend

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Police Department would like to make the public aware of current crime trends.  In the last three weeks the police department has received numerous complaints involving vehicle burglaries, thefts of copper from construction sites and theft of motorcycles.

In the last three weeks there have been 113 vehicle burglaries reported to CPD. Of the vehicles that were broken into 62 were reported to have been unlocked at the time of the burglary, 11 had signs of forced entry and 21 were unsure if the vehicles were left unlocked. We wish to remind the citizens of Clarksville to keep their vehicles locked and to remove all valuables from their vehicles.

The commonly held belief that locking your car will not prevent the burglary from occurring but only lead to your window being broken and your property being taken is unsupported by statistical data. Thieves chose the easiest target and breaking a window draws attention – by locking your car and removing your valuables from plain view you prevent the crime from occurring. There have also been several reports of items such as catalytic converters and wheels being taken from parked vehicles.

There has also been a sharp rise in the number of motorcycles being stolen.  10 motorcycles have been stolen in the last three weeks. Thieves are primarily targeting sport bikes left un-attended in apartment parking lots although there have also been some reports of motorcycles being stolen from residential driveways. Please take all precautions to ensure that your motorcycles remain untouched.  Disc brake locks and storing your motorcycle in secure areas are great ways to reduce the chances of becoming a theft victim.

Copper thefts are also on the rise. This is primarily occurring in construction areas where the copper is easily accessible before and after it has been installed in the building under construction.  Builders should contact the Clarksville Police Department’s Crime prevention section to discuss ways to reduce these thefts.

As a reminder Crime Stoppers offers up to $1000.00 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of persons involved in a crime. The Crime Stoppers number is 931.645.TIPS (8477). All callers will remain anonymous!
