“We’re excited to get the preseason underway,” head coach Kelley Guth said. “Move ins went pretty smooth, Castle Heights is outstanding and the girls are excited. We’re going to stretch the days coming up. We’re going to practice early, give them some down time and really just try to get ready for these upcoming exhibition games. We’re going to focus on keeping them healthy, but it’s going to be an intense couple of weeks.”

With meetings and physicals scheduled throughout the next two days, the Lady Govs first official practice is slated for early Thursday morning. Outdoor temperatures and the soaring heat index could have an effect on the length of practices, which for the most part are scheduled for early morning and late evening.

Austin Peay opens the 2011 season with a pair of exhibition contests, the first set for 7:00pm, August 12th, against Freed-Hardeman. The season opener is scheduled for August 19th at Alabama A&M while the home opener is set for August 30th with Union University.

Ohio Valley Conference preseason polls are set to be released Thursday and little doubt exists the Lady Govs will be picked among the league favorites. Austin Peay returns OVC Freshman of the Year Tatiana Ariza, along with two other All-OVC picks in sophomores Natalia Ariza and Joceline Quiceno.
