Half Marathon to offer Physically Impaired Divisions

Go Commando Half Marathon and 5kMontgomery County, TN – The Go Commando Half Marathon and 5k presented by CDE Lightband will feature two new race divisions. A physically impaired division and a wheelchair division will be offered in both the half marathon and 5k. This will be the first time both divisions are offered in a half marathon in Clarksville.

These physically impaired divisions will allow disabled athletes to compete along the same route as other half marathon and 5k divisions. Both will offer awards to all participants as well as Top Finisher awards overall and in age groups. Participants are required to register through paper registration for both divisions to ensure proper placement.

Race directors have used USA Track & Field’s guidelines for defining physically impaired athletes. Those wishing to enter the physically impaired division must be an amputee or use prosthesis on at least one leg. Wheelchairs must meet certain guidelines as well. For a complete list of the guidelines, visit the event website at gocommandoclarksville.com.

The Go Commando Half Marathon and 5k presented by CDE Lightband is proud to be able to offer these divisions along with the event. “This is truly a community experience and we want those in our area who may have physical limitations to know they can still participate in fitness events in Clarksville,” said Channel Lemon, one of the Race Directors. Race directors are encouraging both local Fort Campbell soldiers and anyone who has suffered a traumatic injury to participate. Plans are currently underway to promote participation by those in the community with physical limitations by working with organizations who aide in their rehabilitation.

Entry fees for the half marathon are now $55.00 and $25.00 for the 5k. Prices will increase beginning October 1st, 2011. All race participants will receive a pair of premium race shorts and finisher’s medal. Both the half marathon and 5k courses will begin and end in Liberty Park. A post race party, featuring Michelob Ultra, will be held at the finish line. Course maps are available online and courses will be certified by USATF.

If you or someone you know is interested in participating in either of these divisions, contact the race office at 931.245.4347. A paper registration form, as well as the guidelines can be found on the event website,  www.gocommandoclarksville.com. The event staff is also looking for volunteers and race marshals to assist with the event. Call the race office to learn more about volunteer opportunities.
