Nashville, TN – Middle Tennessee residents can drop off new school supplies at their local Verizon Wireless stores to give students back-to-school essentials for the new school year. The items collected will help local organizations serving underprivileged and low-income youth throughout Middle Tennesse better prepare students to learn and excel in school.
The nonprofit organizations receiving the supplies include: Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Clarksville; Big Brothers of West Wilson County; the Boys & Girls Clubs (Middle Tennessee and Rutherford County); Dickson County Help Center; East Lincoln Elementary and East Middle School in Tullahoma, TN; Maury County Schools Needy Student Funds; and Sumner County United Way.
“No child should have to start the school year without the basic supplies and tools he or she needs to succeed in the classroom,” said Jerry Fountain, Verizon Wireless president for the Carolinas and Tennessee. “We take great pride in the community in which we live and work; and our employees are proud to spearhead this effort to assist community organizations that help every child feel excited and prepared to go back to school.”
Verizon Wireless is hosting school supply drives at stores throughout Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina through August 15th, 2011. Customers and employees are encouraged to donate #2 pencils, magic markers, colored pencils, plastic rulers, spiral notebooks, crayons, glue sticks, white glue, dry erase markers, pocket folders, construction paper, pencil bags, erasers, index cards, and children’s scissors.
