Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Preseason action comes to an end for Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team when it plays host to Saint Louis, 2:00pm, Sunday at Morgan Brothers Soccer Field.

The Lady Govs rolled to a decisive 5-0 win against Freed-Hardeman in their first exhibition game, outshooting the undermanned Lady Lions 35-1 along the way.

While it was senior Jocelyn Murdoch scoring two second-half goals to pad the Lady Govs early 3-0 lead, there were a number of players that stood out to head coach Kelley Guth. Sophomore Morgan Zigelsky earned the start in her first game with the Lady Govs, while junior Emily Perkins provided solid minutes off the bench. The pair of Ole Miss transfers were expected to be key components for the Lady Govs and did not disappoint.

“Both the transfers played really well and Zigelsky scored the first goal of the game,” Guth said. “That was a great introduction to our program. She has been one of the top performers in camp. Perkins did a great job being a target for us, (Friday). We saw another gear in her when she was making some dangerous runs. She’s explosive and did a great job getting behind the defense.”

Guth also was pleased with the play of freshman striker Claire Pultz after watching the Albuquerque native make some strong runs during the game. Pultz seemed to be a good fit with sophomores Andy and Joceline Quiceno in the Lady Govs front line. Sophomores Tatiana Ariza and Natalia Ariza also combined for 12 shots.

“It was great to see them all on the field,” Guth said. “We have to do a better job putting Claire in positions where she can help. The Quiceno twins looked good, but we didn’t want to push them too much. They’re both dynamic players and it’s great to have them back.”

Austin Peay also got a strong effort form a newly acquainted backline. Sophomore Emily Kink made her first appearance at center back, after starting 2010 at forward and later moving to outside back. Kink was joined on the sides by junior Sara Kluttz and sophomore Corey Osborn, both of whom missed time in 2010 with knee injuries.

The Billikens, meanwhile, lost their first exhibition game, 2-1, at Louisville, Tuesday, when the Cards scored a 90th-minute goal. After finishing 4-9-6 last season in the Atlantic 10, Saint Louis’ squad consists of 15 returners and 12 newcomers. Among the returners is preseason A-10 goalkeeper Katie Walsh, a Murray State transfer.
