Hike, Bike, and Climb Your Way to Fun in September with ODR

Morale, Welfare and RecreationFort Campbell, KY – Just as the temperature starts to cool down the adventures with Outdoor Recreation are heating up. Get ready for a September filled with great outdoor activities the whole Family can enjoy.

On September 3rd enjoy canyons, sheer sandstone cliffs, and rocky-bottomed streams which are sprinkled through the rugged, wooden terrain on this moderately difficult 4.6 mile hike through Garden of the Gods, located in the Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois. Bring water, snacks, and your cameras! Pre-registration required 4:00pm. on September 2nd. Hikers must be at least 10 years of age and will meet at Outdoor Recreation at 8:00am. The cost is $15.00 per person.

Climbing 101

On September 6th from 4:00pm until 6:00pm we’ll be holding Climbing 101. This Clinic is for ages 14 and up and the cost is $15.00 per person. Topics will be the basics of rock climbing such as belay technique, equipment use, proper climbing technique, and much more. This class will prepare you with the basic knowledge to venture into the high adrenaline based sport of Rock Climbing. Meet at the Challenge Course Complex.

Preregistration required by 2:00pm on September 6th.

Mountain Biking Basics

Ever want to try Mountain Biking but don’t know where to start? Well now is your chance! The basics of Mountain Biking, from gear, to fitting, to technique and everything in between will be covered on September 10th. Remember to bring water and close toed shoes as we will be taking our newly acquired skills to the Outdoor Recreation trails. All equipment provided.

Intro to Mountain Biking is $7.00 per person, and participants must be at least 14 years of age and pre-register by 4:00pm on September
9th.

Mountain Biking

Calling all mountain bikers! Join Outdoor Recreation for a trail ride through the trails located around Outdoor Recreation on September 12th at 4:30pm. This is a great way to meet people who share the love for mountain biking. If you do not have a bike but are interested in participating the fee is $5.00 per person. However, bring your own bike and the Mountain Bike Meet-up is free. Everyone age 14 and up is welcome. Pre-registration is not required, but strongly encouraged for anyone needing a bike.

Please pre-register by 2:00pm on September 12th.

After Work Climbing Club

Looking for a place to “hang out” after work? Want to meet other climbers in the area? Are you trying to get a workout to stay in climbing shape? If you answered yes to any of these questions then the After Work Climbing Club is for you. Try your hand at our 50 foot climbing wall located at the Challenge Course Complex. Cost is $5.00 per person for those who need gear provided and $2.00 per person for those who have their own. Personal gear must be approved by Outdoor Recreation staff. Meet at the Challenge Course Complex at 4:00pm. on September 14th.

Pre-registration is required by 4:00pm. the day of the event. Climbers must be at least 14 years of age.

Middle Ocoee Raft Trip

Come get wet on September 24th as we raft the Middle Ocoee. This trip is for ages 14 and up and the cost is $85.00 per person.  Trip leaves at 6:00am and will return at 9:00pm on the 24th. The Ocoee River, home to the 1996 US Olympics, is one of the gems in the whitewater industry. Located in southeastern TN, we will be paddling 8+ miles on two different stretches the Upper (Olympic Stretch) and Middle with rapids from class III-IV. All rafting equipment provided, bring secure shoes, (no flip-flops or bare feet) a sack lunch or snacks and money for dinner on the way home.

Preregistration required by 4:00pm on September 12th.

Family Floats Canoe Trip

Join Outdoor Recreation in their Family Floats Canoe Trip. Trip covers a 5 mile stretch of the Cumberland River. Transportation and equipment provided. Meet at ODR for trip departure on September 28th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. Preregistration required by 2:00pm day of trip and costs $5.00 per person.

Women in the Wilderness Series

The Women in the Wilderness Series is RETURNING! These women only trips are for women 18 years of age and over to have the opportunity to socialize, experience new activities in a safe and fun environment. In September we will be working towards an Overnight Canoe Trip the weekend of September 24th and 25th by learning canoe and kayak basics as well as camping basics through our intro clinics. Be on the look for a separate release just for the Women in the Wilderness events, or call 270.798.2737 for more information.

Private Trips

Outdoor Recreation also does customized private trips for units or Family Readiness Groups (FRGs). Trip registration can be done in person or over the phone, seven days a week, between the hours of 7:30am and 4:30pm. Locations and times of trips are subject to change due to weather conditions. Please dress appropriately for each event.

Cancellations initiated by the participant 48 hours in advance of the trip are entitled to a full refund. However, refunds for cancellations made within 48 hours of the trip will be determined by management. Outdoor Recreation reserves the right to postpone, alter, or cancel any trip.
